Gayngaru (Town Lagoon) East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory

Educating Kids on the Road – East Arnhem Land #2

According to the Indigenous People, Gayngaru (Town Lagoon) was created by Wititj (The Olive Python Serpent) in the Dreamtime, and this is where he is still resting now.

The self guided walk around Gayngaru (Town Lagoon), Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory is a treasure trove of learning.

Especially for the kids, so be sure to take your time to enjoy and explore it.
There is opportunities for any beginning twitcher to watch and learn about birdlife in the billabong and if your lucky like us, spot the crocs, Boy was that bad boy was cruising at high speed!

The best part though is the signed markers of significant Bush Tucker plants to learn about their characteristics and applications.  Little did I know though until afterwards, that there is an Interpretive booklet written for this walk!  Such an amazing culture here in the Top End and I’m so honoured that my kids get to learn and experience this unique and incredible Land first hand.
