Everyone has a dream. For Jose Paronella, a Spanish immigrant worker to Australia, his goal was to … well, to build a gigantic Castle in the humid Tropical North of Queensland of all places! With a genuine commitment to his cause, only sixteen years after first arriving into Australia, he started to build his Castle on this 13-acre property near Innisfail.
And what castle is would be complete without its Waterfalls (yes, more than one) that harnessed the power for his electricity, a Theatre Room, Grand Staircase, Swimming pool and of course a room just for your refreshments?
But the real appeal of visiting Paronella Park comes today, not with a viewing of Jose’s completed grand castle.
Above all, its story and magnificent beauty of seeing the lush rainforest gardens engorge the mix of remnant buildings and those successfully rebuilt. As a matter of fact, in a story of triumphs and tragedies, Jose and his family were to endure fires, numerous floods, and not just one, but three cyclones that each time would topple more and more of his masterpiece. Eventually, He would rebuild only to endure another event that would see his dream, become his love story.
This may all sound like not a suitable child-friendly destination. However, the gardens are very family friendly with large open spaces, and masses of fish, eels and turtles to feed. Your little Princesses will surely dance in front of the enchanted castle, and your little men will also feel like Princes walking through the giant rows of towering Kauri Pines.
